BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN EMPLOYERS AND IMMIGRANTS - EMPLOYERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS (VIRTUAL)
Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 1:00pm - 2:00pm
This workshop examines how small and medium enterprises located in the Lethbridge area can adapt their recruitment and selection approach in order to find “diamonds in the rough”. Qualified candidates who present themselves in ways that do not match the expectations of the average Canadian organization.
Recent labour market research conducted in Southern Alberta has indicated that some employers find it difficult to recruit workers with specific skill sets their business require; this suggests a skill shortage in some sectors. At the same time, immigrants to Canada, many of whom are highly skilled, educated and experienced in their chosen fields aren’t finding professional employment.
With a grant from the province of Alberta, the Department of Labor and Immigration, along with a commitment from more than 20 community partners, we are excited to offer a series of 8 learning events. The series is designed to provide education, support and connections to local employers, service providers, and immigrant job seekers in order to fill gaps and strengthen our economy and community. This issue has increased in importance even more as we recover from COVID-19.
