The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on individuals and families across the country. This is particularly the case for newcomers, temporary foreign workers and diverse cultural groups. Individuals from these groups often struggle to navigate health and other systems. The COVID-19 pandemic created even more barriers to those systems.
In this webinar, an overview will be provided of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Lethbridge context. Speakers from a variety of groups will share their experiences and perspectives from their communities. The impact of the pandemic on settlement processes for refugees and newcomers will also be discussed.

John will also explore components of Cultural Safety and ways to develop and foster them in our work. After arrival to Canada, many newcomers experience challenges navigating the health system. Primary health care is often the first point of entry into the system and includes physicians, public health nurses, chronic disease clinicians and immigrant serving agencies. In this lunch and learn webinar we will highlight the journey of newcomers and clinicians through their first encounters. Health care providers as well as those who work with newcomers are invited to take part in this 90 minute session.
