Starting April 18 and running for one year, Alberta’s government has established a temporary one-year driver’s licence exchange program all holders of a Ukrainian Category B (passenger vehicles) or BE (passenger vehicles with a trailer) driver’s licence.
New Ukraine Help Line Launched
The Government of Alberta has launched a new Ukraine Help Line. This Help Line will provide a single, streamlined point of contact to help Ukrainian evacuees navigate supports and services available to them. Help Line Details: Phone number is 1-888-701-1101 (Alberta only). Staff will be available Monday-Friday 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM, and can provide service in English, Ukrainian or Russian.
How Lethbridge, Alberta, found a solution to its family doctor shortage
"For several years, there had been a revolving door of family doctors in the southern Alberta city. Some coming in, but more leaving. And before anyone seemed to grasp the severity of the situation, which was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, an estimated 40,000 people found themselves without a dedicated physician in a city of just 100,000.But in an unusual move, the municipal government in Lethbridge, which was rarely part of provincial recruiting efforts, formed a partnership with Alberta Health Services. The result: 17 family doctors were hired last year – more than triple the intake of 2021 and far beyond the four total hires in 2020 and 2019."
One-time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit
To help low-income renters, the Government of Canada has launched a one-time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit. This will be a one-time payment of $500 to those who are eligible. The criteria and instructions on how to apply can be found at the link below. Information is provided in multiple languages. The application deadline is March 31, 2023.
