Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has a series of videos that will help you settle into your new life in Canada, including what you should do in your first two weeks in Canada, information about renting or buying a home, learning English or French, and working in Canada.
Recent labour market research conducted in Southern Alberta has indicated that some employers find it difficult to recruit workers with specific skill sets their business require; this suggests a skill shortage in some sectors. At the same time, immigrants to Canada, many of whom are highly skilled, educated and experienced in their chosen fields aren’t finding professional employment.With a grant from the province of Alberta, the Department of Labor and Immigration, along with a commitment from more than 20 community partners, we are excited to offer a series of 8 learning events. The series is designed to provide education, support and connections to local employers, service providers, and immigrant job seekers in order to fill gaps and strengthen our economy and community. This issue has increased in importance even more as we recover from COVID-19.

It’s helpful to know what to expect and what services and support are available to you as a resettled refugee to help you get settled in Canada. Before you arrive, you can take Canadian Orientation Abroad training from the International Organization for Migration. This will help you learn more about Canada and how to prepare for travel.
The Regional Skills Study is designed to support greater alignment between job vacancies of local employers with those looking for work. For this study, the Southwest Alberta region is defined as the area spanning east of the BC border, south of Calgary, and west of Brooks.
