Provincial

The Government of Alberta is run by a group of 83 people that includes the Premier and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA’s). The government meets in Edmonton but the MLA’s also spend time in their home areas. The provincial government takes care of things like:

• Education
• Health care
• Transportation
• Housing
• Seniors
• Agriculture
• Energy
• Justice
• The environment

Lethbridge is represented by two MLA’s in two constituencies, one in Lethbridge East (east of 13 Street) and one for Lethbridge West (west of 13 Street).

You can vote and run for government office as long as you are a Canadian citizen. Many members of different levels of government in Canada were born in other countries.
