Watch out for scams! It is sad but true that some people want to steal your money.
Watch out for scams! It is sad but true that some people want to steal your money.
If someone calls and asks for money for a charity, ask them to send their information in the mail so you can look it over before you decide; real charities will be happy to do so. If it is a scam, they will not. As well, be extremely careful before giving out your credit card number or other personal information over the phone!
Some people will phone or e-mail saying that you have won a prize of some sort, but remember; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Real lotteries never contact winners by phone or e-mail and they NEVER ask for money before you get your prize. If you think someone has tried to take your money illegally, call the Lethbridge Regional Police Service and report it.
If you do not want calls from telemarketers, put your name on the Do Not Call registry. Register online.
List your home, mobile or fax number to reduce telemarketing calls. Registration is free. Telemarketers have 31 days from the date you register to stop contacting you.
