These laws protect the people and cover murder, theft, drugs, drunk driving, assault, etc. Anyone who is charged with a crime will be arrested by the police and then tried in court. In Canada, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. If charged with a crime, the court will assign a lawyer if you can not afford one, or you can hire a lawyer yourself.
Canadian Law forbids violence against anyone, including members of your family. The law also requires that you report any cases of physical or sexual abuse.
